Introduction to Practice Management

Family medicine is one of the most diverse, interesting, and rewarding fields of medicine. We serve patients of all ages, with a wide variety of clinical conditions, and in many clinical settings. This variety adds to both the fulfillment and the complexity of running an effective and efficient practice. A fundamental role of family physicians involves advocating for our patients, our communities, our colleagues, and for ourselves. While a master’s in business or healthcare administration is not necessary for most physicians, a solid understanding of the historical, social, cultural, economic and legal factors affecting healthcare is essential for a flourishing practice and career.
