How do we better understand and serve Black patients hurt by discriminatory law enforcement practices?

Session Description: Discriminatory practices and violence perpetrated by law enforcement has deleterious effects upon the physical and mental health of Black adults. Further, such practices and trauma are associated with poorer overall well-being. In this session, you will learn about these issues, potential protective factors and interventions.

Learning Objectives (3)

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

1.     Describe the impact of discrimination experience by law enforcement on physical and mental health and well-being in an adult Black primary care sample.

2.     Describe the roles of religiosity, resiliency, and perceived social support as potential protective factors for discrimination experience, health, and well-being in a Black adult primary care sample.

3.     Explain relationships among childhood trauma and measures of health, quality of life, and discriminatory experiences in a Black adult primary care sample.
